Low back pain, or lumbar pain, is very common today in the population, due to overwork and postures maintained for a long time during the day.
It can also be due to problems associated with menstruation (in women), and digestive problems.
Also a deficiency of yin or yang in the kidneys can lead to prolonged low back pain. Kidney stones or stones in the kidney cause a lot of low back pain, and of course, without a doubt, it can also be caused by a mattress that is not suitable for our weight and is too soft.
In many cases the pain is due to muscle contractures, and also due to herniated discs.
Herniated discs usually occur mainly in the lumbar vertebrae, and are very painful, although they also often occur in the cervical vertebrae. In the lats they can also occur, but it is less common and they tend to give less problems. The definition of herniated disc is; Displacement of one of the intervertebral discs causing stiffness of the spine and compression of the cord or nerve roots.
Over the years I have treated herniated discs with traditional Chinese medicine treatments and on a large number of occasions the pain has completely subsided.
On other occasions, it could not be solved after several months of treatment, due to bone wear, or perhaps also to the lack of follow-up of the treatment, since it is necessary to do a treatment followed by 2 or 3 sessions per week, until that it is improving, and with the improvement gradually space the sessions. Many times the patient cannot come as often.
To treat herniated discs, perseverance and regularity are needed to be able to eliminate all the irritation and contractures that have been caused due to the disc’s friction with the nerve and the pain.
The most surprising clinical case that I had a few years ago was with a boy in his 40’s who came to consult with five cervical disc hernias. He also suffered from claustrophobia and had cramps in his arms due to herniated discs. In the first session I had to open windows and doors so that he felt comfortable, I treated his problem with shiatsu and acupuncture.
After a couple of months of treatment the pain, and the sensation in the arms disappeared completely. The claustrophobia went away after a few sessions leaving us both very surprised.
